Fequently Asked Question (Wk3-Jan2024)

#FAQ

Question : On the USBC-H-422/485-M PRO / USBC-H-422/485-M-ISO PRO series USB-RS422/485 adapters, what does the IPWR LED indicate?

Answer : Our new PRO series adapters have a useful 5V output on the terminal block which can be used to power external devices with 5V at up to 250mA. The IPWR LED illuminates a steady green colour to indicate that this 5V output is on.

Note that on the USBC-H-422/485-M-ISO PRO, the 5V output is isolated from the USB supply via the DC:DC converter and so this LED also indicates that the DC:DC converter is operating and providing the 5V output.

Question : What does the EFS feature on the USBC-H-422/485-M PRO / USBC-H-422/485-M-ISO PRO series do?

Answer : The EFS (Extra Fail Safe) feature is similar to the biasing feature found on our other converters. It helps to bias the data lines to the idle state when no node is driving the bus, preventing spurious data which may be received if the lines are floating.

Like the other features in our PRO series, the EFS biasing is built into the converter avoiding the need for external components, and is enabled/disabled easily via our configuration tool. The EFS LED illuminates in a steady green colour to provide a clear indication when this feature is enabled.

Question : How do I install the drivers for the USBC-H-422/485-M PRO / USBC-H-422/485-M-ISO PRO series?

Answer : The USBC-H-422/485-M PRO / USBC-H-422/485-M-ISO PRO adapters use the standard FTDI drivers. Please see our Driver Install guide for more details.

You can easily install the drivers before connecting your converter by downloading the executable installer from our Drivers Page. The drivers are also available on Windows Update and so you can connect your adapter and Windows will install the driver if your settings allow.
